BIO/FilmoGRAPHY of
the directors
Maša Zia Lenárdič and Anja Wutej are self-taught filmmakers born in Slovenia.
In 2013, they moved to Berlin, Germany where they now live, work and create.
Together, they have created 6 independent queer films which have been screened and more than
180 film festivals all around the world.
Their first independent short film ''Take It / Break It'' (2011) has been screened at 20 film festivals all around the world and their second independent short film ''(A)Typical Couple'' (2012) at around 50 international film festivals.
In 2013 they completed their first documentary feature ''Queer Artivism'' (2013) which has been screened at more than 30 film festivals and nowadays serves as an educational medium at different conferences, schools, universities, NGO events etc.
Identifying as queer women, all their films are focused on/deal with queer topics and involve queer characters and their stories. Most visually experimental, abstract and personal film is a short film ''Disconnected'' (2018) which tells a story of a queer woman in her 30s who is struggling to find her place under the sun. The film has been screened at more than 40 film festivals.
Their most humorous short film is a queer satire ''Not Your Ordinary Sister'' (2019), which in a witty yet direct way addresses both the startling popularity of lesbian vampire films as well as the lack of proper representation in queer cinema on the subject of queerness within the conservative and patriarchal religious organisations (lesbian nuns / lesbian ex-nuns). So far it has been selected at more than 40 film festivals.
